Zalan “Zal” Astaroth is half Britannian, half Persian. He is a direct descendant of Zephyr Astaroth and the youngest son of the infamous Astaroth family. Zalan is the only person in history ever to be expelled from the prestigious Astar Academy.

Zalan has obsidian black wavy curls down to the middle of his upper arm and green eyes.

Magik
Zalan’s magikal affinity is unconfirmed. His wand is black with a viridian-green sheen to it and is carved from the horn of a Maiden-stalker drake.

Haruki “Haru” Keen is half East Asian, half Welsh. He was left on his father’s doorstep when he was a baby and has no real memories of his mother. Haruki is also Tegan Pritchard’s “cousin” through familial adoption.

Haruki has chin-length marmalade-colored hair and amber eyes.

Magik
Haruki’s affinity is fire magik.

Tegan is half Welsh, half West African. She is the only child of an apothecary from a small Welsh village and her mother passed away when she was young. Tegan is also Haruki Keen’s “cousin” through familial adoption.

Tegan has tiny copper corkscrew curls.

One of Zalan and Haruki’s fellow classmates at Bealnora. He seems to be a close friend of Reginald Smoot.

Markus is Haruki’s old dormmate. “I swear by the end of last term I thought one of us was going to strangle the other to death.” — Haruki Keen

One of Zalan and Haruki’s fellow classmates at Bealnora. Reginald seems to go out of his way to pick fights with Zalan on a near weekly basis. However, he seems to be a close friend of Markus Argall.

Reginald has straw-colored hair brown eyes.

His magik smells vile to Zal like something long expired.

A classmate of Zalan and Haruki’s at Bealnora of Nepalese (Nepali) Indian descent. Though Aruna appears bookish and meek she is more than willing to speak up against injustice.

Aruna has two long braids and black-brown eyes. 

She is the current headmistress of Bealnora School of Magecraft.

Bernard isn’t particularly fond of the “Welsh kin” as he’s dubbed Haruki Keen and his cousin Tegan. However, he especially loathes Haruki due to an incident where Haru accidentally set his bedsheets ablaze when Haru was 12.

Third son of House Astaroth and older brother to Zalan. He is 10 years older than Zal and often mistaken as the twin of his slightly older brother Desmond.

Darius accidentally lost his little brother Zalan on a train platform when Zal was 4. Instead of admitting fault, he backed up his brother Desmond’s accusation that the Fitzpatricks (a magikless elderly rural couple) had kidnapped little Zalan. 14 years later the Fitzpatricks are still rotting in jail for a crime they didn’t commit.

Second son of House Astaroth and older brother to Zalan. He is 12 years older than Zal and often mistaken as the twin of his slightly younger brother Darius.

Delwyn is Welsh. He’s an apothecary from a small Welsh village with little magikal aptitude to speak of who befriended Richard Keen in his youth. Delwyn is Tegan’s father and Haruki’s adoptive uncle.

Delwyn has copper-colored hair and brown eyes.
